Dal(pappu) is a very common dish made in India especially in Andhrapradesh.
People like eat pappu in combination with rice and avakaya. This article is
about making pappu with green leafy vegetables without using cooker. Normally
used green leafy vegetables are Palakura(spinach), Mentikura(fenugreek plant), leaves
of tamarind tree etc.
Ingredients :

Green leafy vegetables( here palakura and mentikura) – ½ bundle |

Kandipappu(red gram dhal) or Chana dal/senaga
pappu – 1 cup |
|
Onions -2 |
|
Tomatoes - 2 |
|
Green chilies - 5 |
|
Oil – 2 to 3 teaspoons |
|
Salt - 2 teaspoons |
|
Coriander leaves - few |
|
Curry leaves – few |
|
Cumin seeds (jeelakarra) &mustard seeds (aavalu) - a
pinch |
|
Garlic – 5 to 6 pieces |
|
Turmeric powder - 1 pinch |
|
Water - 2 cups |
Procedure :
Take one cup of red gram dhal or chana dhal into one bowl wash and add 2 cups
of water, a teaspoon of oil and a pinch of turmeric powder keep for boiling.
Wash the green leafy vegetables, cut into small
pieces keep aside. Then take tomatoes, green chillies cut into small pieces.
Then
check the dhal if got boiled, if the dhal is able to be pressed to some
extent it is got boiled, in pressure cooker it will take 5 to 6 whistles. Now add
the pieces of green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, green chilies, coriander leaves
into the bowl.
Now after all of them got boiled takeout the bowl from the stove.
Now add 2 teaspoons of salt and press all of them well with pappugutti (dhall
pounder) as shown in video.
Now take one pan add 2 to 3 spoons of oil and heat
it.
After it becomes hot add a pinch of cumin
& mustard seeds, curry leaves, onion pieces, garlic pieces and fry them.
After
they become fried add this into the
already pressed mixture and mix well.
Now the hot hot akukura pappu is ready.
